Picking up where we left off, we find ourselves at the end of 1966. By now, British music is every bit as popular as our own home-grown variety, and there’s a sense of cool fashion and style that may give most British bands an edge with the youth who are buying 45’s.

It may even be argued that the British influence on American culture was stronger in 1966 than it was in Great Britain. After all, American pop radio stations were prevalent all over America, while English kids had to find alternatives to BBC radio, which steadfastly refused to yield more than one hour a day to the depravities of rock and roll music.

The BBC may have thought they could stem the tide, but it was already too late, because the world at large was grooving to the burst of creativity that defined most pop music from this era.
