This was certainly an eclectic year for the Billboard US Hot 40 Singles Charts.

Along with several groups that 1960's audiences have come to know and love, there were a few "newcomers" offering up their debut and/or "one-hit wonders" that managed to reach that magical, coveted, top spot.

As you will read below, this year only featured 16 songs over the course of the entire year, as many of the songs from the familiar powerhouse performers of the day, held the top spot for weeks at a time.
