Is “Abbey Road” the best album of all time? Of course, that’s a subjective question, but there are certainly an awful lot of people who would say so, and there are many, many ‘best-of’ lists that rate this album at the all-time #1 spot.

There’s plenty of good reasons for this. Lennon and McCartney were not writing together per se, but their individual ideas are paired together here in seamless form, adding a sense of unity that the ‘White Album’ lacked. Also, George provides two of the best songs he had ever written. There is an underlying sadness, as it is impossible to ignore the finality that “Abbey Road” represents, but as far as swan songs go, this is certainly the standard bearer.
