    It would be very easy to convey the Kinks story by starting with their first hit, “You Really Got Me”, as if it suddenly appeared from nowhere, but that would be less than truthful.

    In actuality, brothers Ray and Dave Davies developed their individual talents over a period of years. Even the song “You Really Got Me” developed through an evolution process, as shown in this program. With these songs, we can hear the roots of a sound that would develop into something incredibly unique and influential, but it is a sound that required some time and work.
