In quick order, George found himself writing music for Broadway shows, with brother Ira providing lyrics for some of his compositions.

It took some time for the two brothers to recognize that their talents were intrinsically suited to one another. In the early twenties, the musical form for a Broadway-style show was still a fairly new concept, and their exacting demand for detailed perfection aided them in their role of developing the form. As if that weren’t enough, George also set himself the task of developing the means to bring jazz and ‘serious’ music together. It was a period of explosive growth, especially for George.
