    Before we move on to another timeframe, let’s take one last look at a few classic albums that were released for the New Year of 1973. No doubt, 1973 was a transitional year, as can easily be discerned by two debut releases from artists who profoundly affected the future course of popular music.

    Whether you considered their work to be a brave new world, or just a rehash of previously used concepts is a matter of personal taste, but it is undeniable to state that Bruce Springsteen and to a slightly lesser extent, Steely Dan were transitional artists that moved away from any lingering psychedelica or British beat group styles. In January 1973, there was no turning back.

    Songs featured here include;

    1) Midnite Cruiser – Steely Dan (“Can’t Buy a Thrill”)

    2) Only a Fool Would Say That – Steely Dan (“Can’t Buy a Thrill”)

    3) Brooklyn (Owes the Charmer Under Me) – Steely Dan (“Can’t Buy a Thrill”)

    4) Change of the Guard – Steely Dan (“Can’t Buy a Thrill”)

    5) Growin’ Up – Bruce Springsteen (“Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ”)

    6) Blinded By the Light – Bruce Springsteen (“Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ”)

    7) Spirit in the Night – Bruce Springsteen (“Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ”)
