Black Crowes
Fans of the Black Crowes have a lot to celebrate with the release of “The Lost Crowes.” Contained in this package are two previously unreleased albums, albums that stand up to the rest of the band’s catalog with ease.
The first disk is entitled “Tall,” (apparently a slang term for getting high…not that I would know…) and it was recorded and shelved in 1993, before the release of “Amorica.” The second disk is simply titled “Band” and it was recorded in 1997.
I’m not a Black Crowes completist but I’ve always had a healthy respect for their sensibility. Not many bands could stand up to the reputations of their predecessors without looking like copycats, but the Black Crowes carry the classic rock torch like a band born out of time. Evidence for this is all over this two-disk set. It’s virtually impossible to not bang along in time while the band rocks out, and Chris Robinson’s vocal abilities shine throughout. For fans of traditional, raucous rock and roll, this package will make you realize that for real, rock and roll will never die.
