The title offers the first sign that something is wrong; if it were an album of lullabies, why would dreams be unexpected? Then when you play the CD, the answer becomes obvious; playing this collection of songs is more likely to make you want to stick your head in oven than to provoke sweet dreams.
Never in my life have I ever heard such a treacly, sweet collection of monotonous goo. On a collection such as this, there are numerous things that could go wrong, and it appears as though almost everything does go to hell in a handbasket. I know that most people would expect me to insult the singing of actors and actresses such as Jeremy Irons or Julia Louis-Dreyfus, but that would be unfair, and that is one of the few things that did not go wrong. Each of the vocalists on this collection can actually sing – some quite well – but that doesn’t make it any less painful. In some ways, it’s worse because they can sing, which destroys any semblance of unintentional humor that might have floated the project for a song or two. It is sad….no, it’s worse than sad. It’s downright painful to hear songs written by Bob Dylan, John/Taupin, and Lennon/McCartney reduced to such gutless, personality-free fodder.
With so many choices available in this great big world of ours, why would you want to subject your child to something as milquetoast bland as this? Hearing famous actors and actresses of the stage and screen sing these morose, mushy ditties for their kids makes me question their parenting skills. Somebody, call child services.
