Jimmie Vaughan
If you know Jimmie Vaughan’s style, then you know what to expect from any new album. Out There should be full of classic, tasty blues with a slightly humorous twist, and he doesn’t disappoint. It’s great roadhouse music, and it sticks closely to its rootsy formula. Jimmy plays his guitar with a hard, stinging Texas edge, but without the flash of his younger brother, Stevie Ray, and usually keeps things interesting enough to hold your attention. The CD only disappoints when the influences are too obvious or threadbare, like the "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" rewrite called "Motor Head Baby," or his passing references to Booker T & the MG’s and Bill Doggett. Still, though, these aren’t bad references, and his authenticity holds the work together.
