Comfort Eagle

“We are building a religion, we are building it bigger…your resistance is futile.” That’s the lyrics to the title track from Cake’s fourth disc, “Comfort Eagle.” The Sacramento based 5 piece is building a religion, one that worships weird, quirky lyrics, riffs and melodies. Led by frontman John McCrea, Cake sure has a wild sound. I personally love it, the mixing of McCrea’s monotone vocals and Vicent DiFiore’s trumpet make for some fun party music. Take the hit single, “Short Skirt, Long Jacket,” it starts off with DiFiore’s trumpet, followed by an 80’s beat box then McCrae’s vocals, talk about eclectic. And the lyrics are even stranger… “I want a girl that gets up early, I want a girl that stays up late.” Hey John, if you find her please let me know! Seriously, give this disc a few listens and you won’t be disappointed.
