Previous shows featured all of the recordings from “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” in their stereo versions. Although stereo is now the standard for studio recording, back in 1967, it was still considered to be something that appealed strictly to audiophiles, so the Beatles and their producer George Martin did not expend much energy monitoring the stereo mixes.
While the group and producer would spend days fretting over details of the mono mix, the stereo mix was dashed off, with none of the bandmembers present. How ironic, then, that nearly every Beatles fan is now exclusively familiar with the stereo mix, while the mono mix has become something of a rarity.
For this show we feature the mono version of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” album in its entirety, with minimal interruption.
