How Music Changed Part 139-15: The British Invasion Part 15

episode date - November 12, 2010

For reasons that defy any logical explanation, it seems that the pop music coming out of England in late 1966 had a decidedly British flavor to it.

As the year neared its end, references to American rock and roll and blues artists were less prevalent - even Eric Burdon and the Animals seemed to be embracing pop trends. In their place were florid arrangements inspired by British culture and the burgeoning psychedelic movement, making this one of the more interesting stages of the British Invasion.

Songs featured today include;

1) Lady Godiva – Peter and Gordon

2) Stop! Stop! Stop! – The Hollies

3) East West – Herman’s Hermits

4) Help Me Girl – Eric Burdon & the Animals

5) Knight in Rusty Armour – Peter and Gordon

6) Color My World –Petula Clark

7) Georgy Girl – The Seekers

8) Gimme Some Lovin’ – The Spencer Davis Group

9) Green Green Grass of Home – Tom Jones

10) There’s a Kind of Hush – Herman’s Hermits

11) Epistle to Dippy – Donovan

12) Niki Hoeky – P.J. Proby

13) Ruby Tuesday – The Rolling Stones
