From today’s perspective, it may seem politically incorrect, or even racist, to portray the history of early jazz in black and white terms, but the truth is that is how the history unfolded.
Segregation and Jim Crow saw to that, so any OTHER presentation would be fantasy, or revisionism. That is why this series – Bix, Tram and the Golden Age of Jazz – is dedicated to the white musicians who were responsible for some of the greatest innovations in jazz history, and who helped develop the genre into something that eventually unified the races.
Today’s show is dedicated to the early history of Bix Beiderbecke, a young Midwestern white boy who felt the calling, and dedicated his life to music.
