It’s funny to think how easy it is for us to forget (or ignore) how quickly time passes. I wouldn’t argue that 1962 is ‘contemporary’, but still in all, the good stuff featured in today’s show still holds up quite well, and has proven to be quite influential in the development of popular music, particularly the soul genre.
Few songs written today can hold up when compared to these gems, but in 1962, material of this caliber was required if you expected to have a hit. I suppose it should be no surprise that most of these artists have moved on, but that also goes to show just how easy it is to ignore (or forget) just how quickly these endless numbered days pass us by.
Here are featured songs;
1) Dream Baby – Roy Orbison
2) You Better Move On – Arthur Alexander
3) Something’s Got a Hold on Me- Etta James
4) Soul Twist – King Curtis & the Knights
5) I Can’t Stop Loving You- Ray Charles
6) Night Train – James Brown
7) Twistin’ Postman – The Marvellettes (as a ‘Bad Hit’)
8) Speedy Gonzales - - Pat Boone(as a ‘Bad Hit’)
9) Having a Party - Sam Cooke
10) Twist and Shout – The Isley Brothers
11) Any Day Now – Chuck Jackson
