Hours before we were scheduled to go on air, we received word that Levon Helm was in the final throes of his battle with cancer. A rush of emotions came over me when I heard the news, for a number of reasons, many of which are stated at the start of this program.
When the show aired, Levon was still hanging on, but his family had already issued a statement, indicating that the end was imminent, so we decided to dedicate our program to Levon, hoping to send out a positive sense of his musical accomplishments.
Levon died on Thursday 4/19, one day after this show was originally aired.
