A lot of the pop music from the late summer of 1970 had a pastoral feel that conveyed the feeling of a warm summer day. In some ways, this made the music seem slight and lifeless. In other ways, it made for pleasant listening.
The edginess and rebellious nature that had become a visceral part of pop music, particularly in regard to the growing anti-war sentiment, seemed to take a summer vacation in August, with lighter fare dominating the airwaves.
Here are songs that charted during the height of the summer days in 1970;
1) Get Up (I Feel Like Being a Sex Machine) – James Brown
2) Don’t Play That Song – Aretha Franklin
3) Patches – Clarence Carter
4) Julie, Do Ya Love Me – Bobby Sherman
5) Candida – Dawn
6) Ain’t No Mountain High Enough – Diana Ross
7) Cracklin’ Rosie – Neil Diamond
8) (They Long to Be) Close to You – The Carpenters
9) Help – The Carpenters
10) Add Some Music To Your Day – The Beach Boys
11) All I Wanna Do – The Beach Boys
12) And the Tide Rushes In – The Moody Blues
13) Dawning Is the Day – The Moody Blues
