Yet another trip back to the ‘70s, and what a long, strange trip it is…
Rarely, if ever, has there been such a golden era for popular music than at the turn of the decade, as 1969 melted into 1970 – which is why we seem to be spending so much of our energy covering this era. There’s simply too much good stuff to ignore, and this show is no different.
This episode of American Hit radio is devoted exclusively to albums that were released forty years ago this month, in June 1970. Once again, it proves that pocket money sure was important for teenagers around this time, because that as the only way they were going to be able to hear their favorite music. Remember, this dates before the home recording boom, so the only way to hear your favorite songs was to wait for the local radio station to play it, go to a friend’s house who bought the album before you did, or buy it for yourself. For this specific reason, there was a deep personal connection to music at this time, a connection that never faded. Here a few album tracks to prove my point;
1) High Time – The Grateful Dead (Workingman’s Dead)
2) Cumberland Blues - The Grateful Dead (Workingman’s Dead)
3) Gasoline Alley – Rod Stewart (Gasoline Alley)
4) You’re My Girl (I Don’t Want to Discuss It) - Rod Stewart (Gasoline Alley)
5) I Don’t Want to Discuss It- Delaney and Bonnie (On Tour w/ Eric Clapton)
6) Coming Home - Delaney and Bonnie (On Tour w/ Eric Clapton)
“
7) All the Tired Horses – Bob Dylan (Self Portrait)
8) In Search of Little Sadie- Bob Dylan (Self Portrait)
9) Copper Kettle - Bob Dylan (Self Portrait)
10) Wigwam -Bob Dylan (Self Portrait)
11) I Had a Dream – John B Sebastian (Woodstock)
12) Star Spangled Banner – Jimi Hendrix (Woodstock)
