The Time Was May 1960: Singles and LP Tracks

episode date - May 19, 2010

Wow. Things were a lot cooler in 1960 than I might have presumed. While there was some awful crap on the pop radio (and I play some of this for you to gag on…), there were a lot of great classic tunes as well, and the album charts….like I said, Wow!

Three of the most revered jazz albums of all time were released in May 1960, so we dedicate the second half of our program playing tracks from these classic LP’s.

Songs featured today include;

1) Think – James Brown

2) Wonderful World - Sam Cooke

3) Ooh Poo Pah Doo, Pts. 1 and 2 – Jessie Hill

4) Ding-A-Ling – Bobby Rydell (as a ‘Bad Hit’)

5) Paper Roses –Anita Bryant (as a ‘Bad Hit’)

6) Cathy’s Clown – The Everly Brothers

7) Giant Steps – John Coltrane

8) Back at the Chicken Shack – Jimmy Smith

9) Concierto de Aranjuez (adagio) – Miles Davis
