Thirty years ago, the music scene was going through a significant transition period.
The result was a lot of competition between artists, and a lively edge to the new recordings that all vied for popularity while the genre had yet to be specifically defined. ‘New Wave’ was the term eventually applied to this music, but even that description meant little, especially when considering the diversity of these bands.
This show focuses specifically on five bands that released albums at this time of year, thirty years ago, and highlights the diversity of the music that was now being referred to as ‘new wave’.
Songs include;
1)Love for Tender - Elvis Costello & the Attractions (“Get Happy!”)
2)Secondary Modern - Elvis Costello & the Attractions (“Get Happy!”)
3)I Can’t Stand Up (For Falling Down) - Elvis Costello & the Attractions (“Get Happy!”)
4)What’s the Matter with You - Split Enz (“True Colours”)
5)I Got You - Split Enz (“True Colours”)
6)We Love You - “The Psychedelic Furs”
7)Imitation of Christ - “The Psychedelic Furs”

9)Another Nail in My Heart – Squeeze (“Argy Bargy”)
10)If I Didn’t Love You – Squeeze (“Argy Bargy”)
11)Your Phone’s Off the Hook… - X (“Los Angeles”)
